At this hotel, which was constructed over a former service station, PES’ activities included conducting a soil and groundwater investigation to determine the extent of contamination from hydrocarbons, evaluating and selecting remedial alternatives, preparing the remedial design, preparing contractor bidding packages, and providing construction management services during remediation. Remediation consisted of installation of a concrete cap over the site, in-place abandonment of an UST located beneath part of the on-site structure, and groundwater monitoring. Extensive multi-agency negotiations were required, as well as technical assistance with potential cost allocation activities with other PRPs.
